Africa’s Newest Chinese-financed Political Training Academy Opens in Tanzania

Chinese ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian joined President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday to open a new political training academy located outside of Dar es Salaam. But unlike similar Chinese-financed academies in South Africa and Ethiopia that are primarily country-specific, this new facility in Tanzania will be accessible to participants from the ruling parties of six southern African countries.

These types of training academies are a critical component of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) party-to-party outreach in Africa that operates in parallel to Beijing’s state-to-state relations.
