China Rallies Countries in Africa and Other Developing Regions to Bolster Its Position on Ukraine War

China is leaning heavily into its ties among developing countries to build support for its stance on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which Beijing feels is a proxy issue for Western militarism.

The issue was a prominent under-current at last week’s meetings between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterparts from Algeria, Egypt, Pakistan, and Zambia among others. The theme has also become far more prominent in recent days on Chinese state-run media.
