China, UN Condemn Eastern DRC Violence 

Increasing violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is raising alarm at the United Nations, with UN officials and Chinese envoys both calling on the DRC government to improve governance.

This follows a UN Security Council briefing on Tuesday by Bintou Keita, the head of the UN Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO.) She reported that 2,300 civilians have been killed since the beginning of the year in the provinces of North and South Kivu and Ituri.
