China’s AU Ambassador Conducts Site Inspection of New Africa CDC HQ Construction

China’s ambassador to the African Union, Hu Changchun, led a site inspection this week of the Chinese-financed construction of the new headquarters of the African Center for Disease Control headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

While the project is being warmly received by Chinese, Ethiopian, and AU officials, it’s something of a sore spot with the United States, which accused Beijing of circumventing the normal AU policymaking process to have the facility located in Addis Ababa rather than in another locale as Washington had wanted.
