Preview: The G7’s China-Global South Problem

While China won’t formally attend this week’s G7 summit, starting from Thursday in Japan, it’s likely to dominate the discussions anyway.

The bloc (made up of France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada) is not known for its interest in the developing world. However, this week’s summit is coming amid anxiety about China’s growing clout in the Global South, and early signs are that these concerns are expanding its gaze Southwards.

Huawei’s Mobile Handset Business Still Has Some Life Left in It… Pretty Much Only in South Africa Though

Chinese telecommunications giant  Huawei held on to a respectable 25% share of the South African market last year  despite the fact that it no longer sells handsets with Google’s Android operating system.
