WEEK IN REVIEW: Namibia Is Emerging as a Key Lithium Producer for the Chinese Market

Namibia is emerging as a key lithium producer for the Chinese market. In August, 25,000 tons of the strategic metal were shipped from the Port of Walvis Bay with another 50,000 tons prepped to leave later this month. Namibian authorities also want to position Walvis Bay as a key gateway for Congolese cobalt that now primarily transits through South Africa’s Port of Durban. (XINHUA)

Cambodian naval authorities report that 30 Chinese nationals were rescued over the weekend when their ship sank on Thursday near the maritime border with Vietnam. In all, 41 Chinese nationals were aboard the ship with three others reported dead and eight still missing. Survivors say they had no food or water and it’s suspected they were victims of human trafficking. (THE STAR)
